One of the most successful runners in Cal State L.A. history, Yolanda Rich won four national championships in her four-year career with the women’s track and field program.
She was the AIAW national champion at 400 meters in 1979 and 1980 and she also anchored sprint medley relay teams that won AIAW championships in 1978 and 1980.
The 1978 team set world, United States and collegiate records.
Rich also placed third at 200 meters in 1979 and was second on the 4x100 relay team and eighth at 200 meters in 1980.
When she concluded her Cal State L.A. career, she had the second-fastest times in the program’s history in the 200 and 400 and she is still in the top-10 in both events today.
