Mary Jo Peppler was considered one of the premier women’s volleyball players during the mid-1960s and she played in both the Olympic Games and also as a professional.

She was named the third most-influential person of the last century in volleyball by Volleyball Monthly in 1995 and is best known for her innovative coach training programs.

She played on the 1964 U.S. Olympic team and was also named to the All-Tournament Team in the 1967 Pan American Games after helping the United States team to a gold medal. She was also the tournament’s “Most Outstanding Player” at the 1970 World Championships.

Peppler was a co-head coach at Utah State for six years from 1986-91, including 1988 when Utah State won its first national championship.

She was inducted into the Women’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1983 and was the winner of ABC’s Superstars competition in 1975. Peppler was also inducted into the AVCA’s Hall of Fame in 2003.
