Andrea Ferchaw certainly did her part in turning Cal State L.A.’s volleyball program into a consistent contender in the NCAA Division II.
Ferchaw became the first Cal State L.A. volleyball player to earn All-America honors in 1992 after a sensational freshman season. Cal State L.A. had just a 9-19 record the year before Ferchaw joined the program, but the 1992 team went 25-10 and advanced to the national semi-finals.
During her four seasons as a Golden Eagle, the team won 25, 22, 24 and 20 matches. The Golden Eagles had a combined record of 91-29 over those four seasons and qualified for the NCAA playoffs each year.
Prior to 1992, Cal State L.A. had achieved only one winning season.
