Helen Park-Bates was a member of one of Cal State L.A.’s winning tennis teams. She won the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women singles championship in 1979 and earned All-America honors that year. She was also an AIAW singles semi-finalist in 1978.
After graduating from Cal State L.A., Park-Bates continued to earn honors in tennis at the professional level. She won the European Women’s Professional Tennis Circuit Masters Championship and, in 1983, she won the Korean, Hong Kong and Singapore professional championships. She also competed for the Korean national team in 1983 and 1984.
