Hall of Fame
With nearly 40 years of outstanding service at Cal State L.A., Rod Faurot was honored for his numerous accomplishments as the head coach of the University’s NCAA Division I golf program. He was the program’s head coach from 1964-71 and was also a longtime physical education professor at Cal State L.A.
Success came early for Faurot and his teams with eight consecutive NCAA championship appearances. In 1965, Cal State L.A. finished second at the Division I championships behind the play of All-American and fellow Cal State L.A. Hall of Famer Arne Dokka. Faurot then guided his teams to three more Top 10 finishes in 1966 (5th), 1969 (7th) and 1970 (5th).
During his tenure, Faurot’s teams never finished lower than third in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. In fact, Cal State L.A. won three CCAA championships (1966, 1968, 1969) and finished second four times. In 1969, he coached NCAA champion Bobby Clark and was awarded Coach of the Year honors. In all, Faurot posted an overall match play coaching record of 126-51-8 (.718).
