Darrell Brown was the first Southern California Baseball Association Player of the Year after he led Cal State L.A. to conference and regional championships in 1977.
Brown and Cal State L.A. also reached the 1977 Division I College World Series and finished fourth in the nation. Brown earned All-America honors after leading the team with a .386 batting average that included 11 home runs and 34 extra base hits in 241 at bats. He also led the team with 44 stolen bases. He still shares the program’s single-season record for most at bats with 241.
Brown hit .278 in a major league baseball career that spanned four years and included stints with the Detroit Tigers, Oakland A’s and Minnesota Twins. He played in a total of 210 games and collected 162 hits. He scored 82 runs and had one home run with 44 RBI.
