Charles Gwynn was one of the brightest stars in the Cal State L.A. program during his three years with the program. His name appeared at or near the top of the Cal State L.A. record book more times than any other name in Golden Eagle baseball history.

Charles Gwynn, the older brother of major league stars Tony and Chris Gwynn, enjoyed a three-year career as one of Cal State L.A.’s most prolific offensive performers of all time.

Gwynn was a three-time NCAA Division I All-Far West Region selection during his collegiate career, setting several records at Cal State L.A. from 1979-81. He still shares the program record for most home runs in a season (17) and he ended his career holding the marks for most extra base hits (74) and longest hitting streak (22 games). He ranked in the top five in 11 different offensive categories at Cal State L.A.

Gwynn is a native of Long Beach and worked as a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
