As one of the finest archers in Cal State L.A. history, it could be said that Luanne van Hunnik took dead aim at success both as a student and an athlete during her Golden Eagle career. One could also say she hit the bulls-eye as both a student and an athlete during her highly-successful collegiate career at Cal State L.A.

She won numerous athletic titles during her career at Cal State L.A., including the team’s Most Valuable Archer award in 1980 and 1981. She was a two-time All-American both those seasons after placing third at the U.S. Intercollegiate Championships as a junior and seventh as a senior. She broke tournament records while winning California State Indoor and Outdoor Championships as a junior and as a senior.

After graduating from Cal State L.A. in 1982, van Hunnik served as the scorekeeper at the 1983 World Target Championships for Gold Medalist Jin Ho Kim of Korea and at the 1984 Olympic Games for Silver Medalist Rick McKinney of the United States.

She compiled an impressive 3.77 grade point average at Cal State L.A. while earning her degree in physical education. She maintains her connection to the Golden Eagle program and has been an equipment manager at Cal State L.A. since 1982.
