Hall of Fame
As a member of Cal State L.A.’s baseball teams in 1969 and 1970, Stodgel set an incredible mark of striking out only once in 229 at bats in 1970.
An All-Pacific Coast Conference selection and a second-team All-America pick in 1970, Stodgel batted .410 and set a then-NCAA record with 94 hits and 21 doubles. He still shares the program record for most hits in a season and he also shares the program’s single-game record for stolen bases with five.
A sixth-round pick of the New York Yankees in the June 1970 draft, Stodgel made four All-Star teams in eight professional seasons.
