Hall of Fame
Denean Howard was a talented member of Cal State L.A.’s women’s track and field team from 1983-85. She is a member of two relay teams that still hold Cal State L.A. program records. Sisters Sherri and Tina were also inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1992.
She teamed with Stephanie Brown, Diane Williams and Jennifer Inniss for a record time of 44.1 in the 4x100 relay and she teamed with Sharon Dabney, Sherri Howard and Tina Howard to set the school record in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:30.25.
Howard was a four-time member of the U.S. Olympic team (1980, while still in high school, 1984, 1988, and 1992). She won the gold medal in the 4x400 relay (along with sister Sherri) at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles and earned a silver medal (again with Sherri) in the 4x400 relay in the 1988 Games in Seoul and captured another silver medal in the 4x400 relay in 1992.
Before coming to Cal State L.A., Howard was named the national “Girls High School Athlete of the Year” in 1982.
