Jesse Owens Track
Jesse Owens Track at University Stadium is home to Cal State LA's track & field teams. With permanent bleacher seating for approximately 5,000 spectators.
In preparation for the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, Cal State LA was selected as one of the six sites to construct a world-class training track. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on January 29, 1982.
The original surface selected by the L.A. Organizing Committee for the track was "Recaflex S." This surface, know for its versatility, was hard enough to record fast times but still soft enough to allow for a regular training regiment.
The track was officially dedicated on May 22, 1983, during the L.A. Regional Championships of the ARCO Jesse Owens Games.
The stadium underwent a major renovation in 2018 with the installation of a new, state-of-the-art turf soccer field and a new, state-of-the-art track.
