Dunn Marteen was the starting quarterback on the first two Cal State L.A. football teams to win California Collegiate Athletic Association championships and led the team to a No. 1 ranking in the national small college polls in 1964.
Marteen won Little All-America honors in 1964 after leading Cal State L.A. to its first undefeated season in the program’s history. He was named the Southern California College Division Player of the Year. Marteen scored 104 points that season with 11 touchdowns, 32 extra point kicks and three two-point conversions. He finished the season with 108 carries for 703 yards and 11 touchdowns and he was 34-of-56 passing for 494 yards and seven touchdowns.
He also earned All-CCAA and UPI-AP Little All-Coast honors in 1963, compiling more than 1,100 yards rushing and passing.
He set 17 school records during his Cal State L.A. career.
Marteen signed professionally with the Ottawa Roughriders of the Canadian Football League and would later play two seasons with the Montreal Beavers of the Continental League. He returned to Southern California to play for coach Homer Beatty and the Orange County Ramblers.
Marteen led Santa Ana College to an undefeated season and national championship in 1962 and he was inducted into the junior college’s Hall of Fame in 2005.
