Hall of Fame
In a program that features a storied history, Marlene Wilcox remains one of the top Cal State L.A. women’s track and field athletes of all-time.
Competing from 1990-92, Wilcox won three NCAA individual championships and earned five All-America awards. She completed her Golden Eagle career third in Cal State L.A. women’s track and field history for most national titles. She also helped Cal State L.A. to second-place national finishes in both indoor and outdoor track in 1992.
She picked up her first two NCAA titles in 1991, capturing the 800 meter run in addition to being a member of the national champion 4x400 relay team. She added her third title as part of Cal State L.A.’s indoor track and field 4x400 relay team in 1992. She also finished second in the nation in the 800 at the 1991 NCAA indoor championships.
Her best time of 2:06.32 still stands as the third-fastest time in the program’s history.
Before coming to Cal State L.A., she earned a spot on the 1980 U.S Olympic Team in the pentathlon as a high school senior and three years later won the 1983 Olympic Festival in the heptathlon. She won a NCAA heptathlon title while at Cal State Northridge in 1983 and was ranked no lower than seventh in the country in the heptathlon from 1980-84. After a few years away from the sport, she found a home at Cal State L.A.
