Cal State LA Athletics

2012: Saw playing time on the field and on the mound in his final season with the Golden Eagles. Appeared in a total of four games with one start. Hit .286 with two hits in seven at bats and went 0-0 with a 13.50 earned run average in two appearances on the mound. Went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles in a win at Biola on Feb. 13. Pitched a scoreless inning of relief with one strikeout in a win at California Baptist on Feb. 3. For his career, appeared in 28 games with nine starts. Hit .310 with 13 hits in 42 at bats. Had seven runs scored and two RBI. Made 14 appearances on the mound and had a 0-0 record with a 7.20 earned run average. Walked six and struck out five in 15 innings pitched.

2011: Saw playing time in the field and on the mound again for the Golden Eagles. Hit .370 with 10 hits in 27 at bats. Scored five runs and had two runs batted in. Went 4-for-8 with three runs scored against Cal State Dominguez Hills on April 22. Also had a hit in his only plate appearance and scored a run in the next contest against the Toros on April 23. Appeared in six games as a pitcher and did not allow an earned run. Threw a total of 5 2/3 innings and allowed only five hits and an unearned run. Had a 0-0 record with a 0.00 ERA. Walked two and struck out one. Pitched two innings at Chico State and gave up only two hits and an unearned run.
 
2010: Earned playing time in the field and on the mound for the Golden Eagles. Hit .125 with one hit in eight at bats. Scored a pair of runs. Went 1-for-3 with a run scored against Cal State San Marcos on March 20. Also pitched in six games. Had a 0-0 record with an 11.05 earned run average. Did not allow a run in three of his six relief outings. Tossed scoreless innings at Cal Poly Pomona on April 3 and against Chico State on April 10. Retired the only batter he faced at Cal State East Bay on April 30.
 
2009: Did not compete for the Golden Eagles and was a redshirt.
 
At Interlake High School: Was the team captain and Most Valuable Player. Was also named Most Inspirational and earned All-King County honorable mention. Competed in baseball, football and golf.
 
Personal: Son of Bill and Dawna Russell. Majoring in television and film studies. Enjoys stand-up comedy. Lists competing with and against his brother Aaron as his most exciting experience in sports. Has two brothers, Aaron and Eric.
