Cal State LA Athletics

2012: Was on the roster, but did not compete in any games for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. For his career, appeared in 49 games and started 21 times. Hit .176 with 15 hits in 85 at bats. Had four doubles, nine runs scored and five RBI. Also made one pitching appearance and retired the only batter he faced. Had a 0-0 record with a 0.00 earned run average with 1/3 inning pitched.

2011: Appeared in 27 games and started 15 times for the Golden Eagles as a sophomore. Hit .193 with 11 hits in 57 at bats. Scored four runs and drove in three. Had a pair of runs batted in against Cal Poly Pomona on Feb. 5. Also knocked in a run against Cal State Dominguez Hills on April 22. Stole three bases in three attempts and had three sacrifices. Made three errors in 41 chances, including 39 putouts.
 
2010:  Appeared in 22 games and started six times as a freshman. Hit .143 with four hits in 28 at bats. Scored five runs and drove in two. Picked up his first collegiate hit in his first start at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Feb. 12. Drove in runs at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Feb. 11 and at home against the Toros on March 27. Scored the game-tying run as a pinch runner during a six-run ninth inning in a 12-11 win over Sonoma State on April 25. Made 14 putouts without an error in the outfield. Also retired the only batter he faced as a pitcher against Cal State East Bay on May 1.
 
At Palisades Charter High School: Earned first-team All-Western League honors three times as an outfielder. Earned team awards as the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior.
 
Personal: Son of Steve and Junko Whalen. Majoring in Kinesiology. Enjoys following the Los Angeles Dodgers and Lakers. Lists playing at home in the City Section playoffs as his most exciting experience in sports.
