Cal State LA Athletics

2012: Was on the roster, but did not compete in any games for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program.

2011: Made 13 appearances on the mound for the Golden Eagles and started three times. Made starts against Cal State Dominguez Hills on April 22, Cal State Stanislaus on April 29 and Cal Poly Pomona on May 6. Pitched a total of 25 2/3 innings and had an 0-2 record with a 11.57 earned run average. Got the final out by retiring the only batter he faced to complete a shutout over Cal State East Bay on March 4.
 
At Santa Rosa Junior College: Compiled a 4-1 record with a 3.57 earned run average in 2010. Made 17 appearances on the mound with nine starts. Walked 10 and struck out 36 in 58 innings pitched. Had an 0-1 record with a 12.60 earned run average in 2009. Appeared in five games and pitched a total of five innings.
 
At St. Louis High School: Was a scholar-athlete. Competed in baseball, football and basketball. Earned first-team All-League honors as a senior and honorable mention as a junior. Earned All-State honors in 2008.
 
Personal: Son of Gordon and Melissa Usui. Majoring in nursing. Enjoys surfing, fishing, diving and the beach. Lists winning the state title game in his senior year and pitching a complete game as his most exciting experience in sports.
