Cal State LA Athletics

2011: Appeared in 12 games and started five times for the Golden Eagles as a freshman. Hit .364 with eight hits in 22 at bats. Drove in four runs and scored two. Went 3-for-5 with one run scored and two runs batted in against Cal State Dominguez Hills on April 22. Also had two hits with a run scored and one RBI against Cal Poly Pomona on May 7.
 
At San Pedro High School: Competed in baseball and football. Earned All-League honors as a catcher from 2008-10. Was the team’s Most Inspirational Player from 2008-10 and was the team’s Most Valuable Player in 2010. Earned All-City honors in 2010. Had the team’s highest GPA in 2010. Made the varsity team as a freshman. Hit .400 in 2008. The 2010 San Pedro HS baseball team went 25-6 and advanced to the L.A. City championship game.
 
Personal: Son of Heriberto and Ivette Matienzo. Majoring in biochemistry. Enjoys lifting weights, the beach and practicing. Lists hitting  go-ahead three-run home run in the semi-finals of the L.A. City playoffs and helping the team reach the championship game as his most exciting experience in sports.
