Cal State LA Athletics

2012: Was a key member of the bullpen once again for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Led the team for a second straight season with 23 appearances, all in relief. Had a 2-3 record with a 4.56 earned run average and three saves. Walked five and struck out 14 in 23 2/3 innings pitched. Shared the team lead in saves. Allowed only one hit and an unearned run in an 8-3 victory at California Baptist on Feb. 2. Scattered five hits and allowed only ohe run and got the win in a 6-5 victory against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Feb. 23. Pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout to get the save in a 10-8 victory over Cal State Stanislaus on Feb. 17. Got the final two outs to preserve a 10-6 win over Cal State Stanislaus on Feb. 18. Got a game-ending double-play grounder from the only batter he faced. Had a scoreless inning with one strikeout to pick up his third save of the season in a 9-6 victory over Cal Poly Pomona on April 20. Had 16 scoreless outings in his 23 appearances. For his career, made 42 relief appearances. Had a 6-7 record with a 3.93 earned run average and seven saves. Walked 15 and struck out 34 in 55 innings pitched.

2011: Had an outstanding season as a relief pitcher for the Golden Eagles in his first year with the program. Led the team with 19 appearances, all in relief. Pitched a total of 31 1/3 innings. Compiled a 4-4 record with a 3.45 earned run average and also recorded four saves. Did not allow a run in 11 of his 19 appearances. Picked up his first win by tossing 2 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball against Saint Martin’s on Feb. 3. Also picked up wins against Grand Canyon on Feb. 11 and San Francisco State on Feb. 20 and went 2 1/3 innings in both games and allowed one hit and no runs. Pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three to pick up his fourth win against Cal State San Bernardino on Feb. 27. Pitched a season-high 4 2/3 innings against Cal State Dominguez Hills on April 22. Recorded saves against Cal State East Bay on March 6, UC san Diego on March 31 and April 2 and Chico State on April 16.
 
At Allan Hancock Junior College: Earned Western State North All-Conference first-team honors and All-Southern California State honors as a relief pitcher in 2010. Had a 3-2 record with four saves and a 4.42 earned run average. Made 19 appearances, 18 of them in relief. Walked only eight and struck out 36 in 38 2/3 innings.
 
At Cal State Bakersfield: Had a 0-0 record with a 6.75 earned run average in 2009. Made 12 appearances, all in relief. Recorded one save and pitched a total of 13 1/3 innings.
 
At Garces High School: Earned first-team All-Southeast Yosemite League honors and second-team All-Bakersfield Californian All-Area team in 2007 as a junior. Was a first-team All-Southeast Yosemite League selection as a senior in 2008. Earned the team’s Ironman award as a junior. Earned second-team All-League honors as a freshman and sophomore  and earned the Ironman award as a sophomore and the Coaches’ Award as a freshman. Competed in baseball and football.
 
Personal: Son of Luis and Maria Valenzuela. Majoring in graphic design. Enjoys skydiving. Lists throwing a one-hit complete game twice as his most exciting experiences in sports.
