Biography

2010: Made big contributions for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Appeared in 21 games with 17 starts. Hit .254 with 15 hits in 59 at bats. Had two home runs, three doubles, 13 runs scored and 15 RBI. Also made five relief appearances. Had a 0-0 record with a 4.76 earned run average. Had seven walks and eight strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings. Went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and a season-high four RBI in a 17-7 victory in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Cal State Monterey Bay on March 13. Hit a solo home run and had two hits in a 3-2 win in the opener. Had a solo home run and scored a pair of runs at Cal State San Bernardino on Feb. 26. Had one hit and scored a season-high three runs in a 17-6 win at San Francisco State on March 7. Went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI at Cal State Dominguez Hills on March 27. Had five multi-hit games. Pitched a season-long 5 2/3 innings and gave up only five hits and one run against Cal Poly Pomona on April 2. Had two scoreless relief outings spanning three innings against Cal State San Bernardino on Feb. 28 and at Cal State Dominguez Hills on March 27. For his career, appeared in 44 games with 16 starts. Hit .278 with 30 hits in 108 at bats. Had three home runs, five doubles, 19 runs scored and 25 RBI.

2009: Had an impressive first season for the Golden Eagles. Hit .306 with 15 hits in 49 at bats. Appeared in 23 games and made eight starts. Had one home run and drove in 10 runs. Belted a grand slam home run in a California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament game against Cal State Dominguez Hills. Was 3-for-9 with two runs scored and five RBI in two games at the tourney. Over his last three starts, was 5-for-13 with three runs scored and five RBI. Did not commit an error in 43 chances in the field.

At West L.A. College: Earned All-Conference honors and was a Fall Classic All-Star in 2008. Also hit .353 as a freshman for Pierce Junior College before attending West L.A. College.

At Notre Dame High School: Competed in football, basketball and baseball. Earned All-League honors in football and was part of a program that won three consecutive CIF Division III championships. Earned All-League honors in baseball as a junior and senior and was the team Most Valuable Player as a senior. Also earned L.A. Daily News All-Area honors and was a Bernie Milligan All-Star. Also earned academic honors from 2003-05.

Personal: Son of Roland and Maribel Sunga. Majoring in criminal justice. Enjoys surfing, working out, staying in shape and video games. Lists hitting the grand slam home run against Cal State Dominguez Hills in the CCAA Championship Tournament as his most exciting experience in sports. Signed with the University of Oregon football team as a long-snapper out of high school and was drafted out of high school by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2005.
