Summary

Biography

2009: Was one of the most improved pitchers in the California Collegiate Athletic Association as a sophomore. Made 13 appearances and started eight times. Recorded a 4-2 overall record with a 4.06 earned run average. Threw a total of 64 1/3 innings and struck out 44. Had the best earned run average among Cal State L.A. starters. Picked up the victory for the Golden Eagles in a 13-7 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in the CCAA Championship Tournament on May 8. Allowed nine hits and four runs over 5 1/3 innings. Didn’t walk a batter and struck out five. Allowed two earned runs or less in five consecutive starts from March 8 – April 10, yet only picked up one win in the stretch. Allowed only five hits and an unearned run over seven innings in a 12-3 win over Cal State San Bernardino on March 14. Gave up six hits and two runs over eight innings, but took the loss in a 2-1 defeat at Cal State Dominguez Hills on March 28. Gave up five hits and two runs while walking one and striking out six, but took the loss in a 2-0 defeat at Cal State Monterey Bay on April 4. Had a season-high seven strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter against California Baptist on Feb. 24. Allowed only two hits and didn’t give up an earned run over five innings against UC San Diego on Feb. 28 in his last relief appearance of the season.
 
2008: Was a key part of the Golden Eagles’ starting staff as a freshman despite battling through some injuries. Made 13 appearances and started nine times. Recorded a 1-6 record with a 7.43 earned run average. Threw a total of 49 2/3 innings and struck out 32. Picked up his win with a strong outing against Chico State on Feb. 23. Allowed only three hits and four runs over seven innings in a 7-6 Cal State L.A. win. Walked two and struck out three in that start. Had a season-high seven strikeouts and walked only one while allowing only three earned runs over 6 1/3 inningsagainst UC San Diego on March 7. Allowed four runs or less in each of his first six starts, yet had only one win to show for it. Finished the season strongly out of the bullpen, allowing only one run in his final three outings covering three innings.
 
At Laguna Beach HS: Competed in baseball, basketball and football in high school. Earned first-team All-League honors in 2007 and was the baseball team’s Most Valuable Player. Was also the team captain in basketball.
 
Personal: Son of John and Debbie Pickett. Majoring in business. Enjoys basketball, golf and eating healthy. Lists beating Cal State Dominguez Hills in the CCAA Championship Tournament last spring as his most exciting experience in sports.
