Cal State LA Athletics

2010: Had a sensational second season for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Appeared in 49 games and started 48 times. Hit .343 with 61 hits in 178 at bats. Had four home runs, 17 doubles, one triple, 47 runs scored and 26 runs batted in. Also led the team with 25 walks and was hit by a pitch a program-record 21 times. Led the team in runs scored and on-base percentage (.478) and was second in batting average. Earned first-team All-West Region honors from the National College Baseball Writers Association and received first-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors for a second straight season. Went 2-for-3 with a double, home run and three runs scored in a 10-2 win over Cal State San Bernardino on Feb. 4. Went 3-for-3 with a double, solo home run and three runs scored against Cal State San Bernardino on Feb. 28. Went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in a 9-4 win over Cal Poly Pomona on April 1. Hit a solo home run against Sonoma State on April 24. Had a season-high four hits with one run and one RBI against UC San Diego on April 17. Went 2-for-4 with a season-high three RBI in an 11-10 win over Sonoma State on April 25. Was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game at 10-10 in the ninth inning. Had  20 multi-hit games. For his career, appeared in 95 games with 93 starts. Hit .377 with 127 hits in 337 at bats. Had 13 home runs, 30 doubles, six triples, 89 runs scored and 72 RBI. Also had 58 walks and was hit by a pitch 35 times. Had an on-base percentage of .512.

2009: Had a tremendous first season with the Golden Eagles and earned honorable mention All-America honors from the NCBWA. Also earned first-team All-CCAA and first-team All-West Region honors after leading the Golden Eagles in home runs (9), runs batted in (46) and batting average (.415). Was also second in runs scored with 42. Led the CCAA in on-base percentage (.543). Saw his season come to a close on April 29 when he was hit by a pitch and suffered a season-ending hand injury against Vanguard. Missed the team’s games in the CCAA Championship Tournament. Had 66 hits in 159 at bats. Hit a game-winning grand slam on an 0-2 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh of a 7-6 win over Cal State San Bernardino to complete a doubleheader sweep at Reeder Field on March 14. Had a season-high three hits and four RBI in the game. Earned CCAA Player of the Week honors after going 7-for-17 with four runs scored and seven RBI. Went 4-for-4 with three RBI and a home run against California Baptist on Feb. 24. Also went 4-for-4 against San Francisco State on Feb. 20. Had three hits or more in eight games. Hit safely in 38 of the 45 games he played.

At Santa Ana College: Earned first-team All-Orange Empire Conference and first-team All-Southern California honors as a sophomore.

At Brea-Olinda High School: Competed in baseball.

Personal: Son of Mario and Evelia Ramirez. Majoring in criminal justice. Enjoys working out, hanging out with friends and lifting weights. Lists hitting the walk-off grand slam against Cal State San Bernardino as his most exciting experience in sports. Also attended Cal State Fullerton before coming to Cal State L.A.
