Cal State LA Athletics

2023: Was one of the team’s top pitchers in his one year with the program. Made 12 appearances and 10 starts and had a 4-4 record with a 6.21 earned run average in 58 innings pitched. Was second on the team in appearances, starts, victories and innings pitched. Made his Cal State LA debut and pitched two innings of relief in a 15-2 win over Providence Christian. Allowed only one hit and an unearned run. Pitched five scoreless innings of relief against Montana State Billings, allowing only two hits and two walks. Made his first start in a 10-9 win over Colorado School of Mines on Feb. 18. Allowed two earned runs over 2 1/3 innings. Picked up his first victory after allowing six hits and three runs over six innings in a 6-5 win over Cal State San Marcos on March 18. Had his best start of the season in a 4-2 win on March 25 at Stanislaus State. Allowed seven hits and one run while walking two and striking out four. Picked up his third straight win after allowing only four hits and two runs over 5 2/3 innings of a 6-4 win over San Francisco State on April 1. Picked up his fourth victory after tossing six strong innings, allowing only six hits and two runs in a 13-2 win over Sonoma State on April 15. Pitched a season-long 7 1/3 innings and recorded a season-high six strikeouts at Cal Poly Pomona on April 7. Earned 2022-23 California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic honors and 2023 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition.

At East Los Angeles College: Was on the Dean’s List every year at the school. Led the team and with 14 starts. Had a 2-3 record with a 4.96 earned run average. Led the team with 69 innings pitched. Had 42 strikeouts and only 16 walks.

At Saint Paul High School: Earned All-CIF, All-Area and first-team All-League honors. Was an all-state game Most Valuable Player and won a home run derby. Was also on the school’s Honor Roll. Competed in baseball and football.

Personal: Son of Renee Tellez. Majoring in criminal justice. Enjoys golfing, music and basketball. Lists winning a league championship his senior year in high school as his most exciting experience in sports.  Notes his parents served in the United States Marines and his uncle Andrew was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 39^th round in 1995.
