Cal State LA Athletics

2023: Made two relief appearances for the Golden Eagles in his second and final season with the program. Pitched a total of 1 1/3 innings and allowed one hit and no runs. Walked four and struck out two. Got one out against Colorado School of Mines on Feb. 19 and tossed a scoreless inning against San Francisco State on April 2, walking two and striking out two. Earned 2023 California Collegiate Athletic Association Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition. For his career, made 15 appearances and nine starts. Had a 1-5 record with a 6.40 earned run average over 45 innings. Walked 42 and struck out 39. 

2022: Was a solid contributor for the Golden Eagles in his first season with the program. Appeared in 13 games with nine starts. Was second on the team with 43 2/3 innings pitched. Had 38 walks and 37 strikeouts. Was third on the team in strikeouts. Had a 1-5 record with a 6.60 earned run average. Made his Cal State LA debut and got the win after three strong innings against Montana State-Billings on Feb. 5. Allowed three hits and one run while striking out five. Pitched a season-long 5 1/3 innings and gave up just two hits and two runs in a win over Cal State Dominguez Hills. Had a season-high six strikeouts in the game and got a no-decision in a 6-5 Cal State LA win. Also had six strikeouts in five innings against Chico State on April 1. Pitched at least five innings in five of his nine starts. Earned 2022 California Collegiate Athletic Association Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition.

At East Los Angeles College: Recorded a cumulative grade point average above a 3.50.|

At Temple City High School: Participated in the Area Code Games and got the opportunity to showcase his skills to many scouts. Had 41 strikeouts in 37 innings pitched and a 1.70 earned run average.

Personal: Son of Nobuko and Kojiro Sakane. Majoring in business. Enjoys music, working out, watching movies and making money. Lists getting a chance to showcase his pitching to scouts as his most exciting experience in sports. Says striking out hitters makes him feel unhittable. Notes he runs a personal business buying and selling goods on third-party marketplaces such as eBay.
