Biography

2009: Had another successful season with the Golden Eagles in the final year of an outstanding three-year career with the program. Made 13 appearances and started 11 times. Went 6-3 with a 6.06 earned run average and one save. Had 14 walks and 29 strikeouts in 62 1/3 innings pitched. Got the final out on one pitch to preserve a 9-7 victory over Cal Poly Pomona on Feb. 11. Entered the game with the tying run at the plate after the Broncos had scored five times to make it a two-run deficit. Got a game-ending force out to end it. Pitched eight shutout innings in his best start of the season, a 7-0 win at Cal State Monterey Bay on April 5. Had no walks and six strikeouts. Also pitched seven outstanding innings and gave up eight hits and just one run in an 11-6 win over Cal State Stanislaus on April 11. Walked two and struck out six, which matched a season high. Gave up six hits and two runs in 5 2/3 innings to pick up his first win of the year, a 5-2 decision over Cal State San Bernardino on Feb. 8. Also allowed only five hits and two runs in a 5-2 win at Grand Canyon on Feb. 14. For his career, appeared in 61 games with 23 starts. Had a 16-11 record with a 4.66 earned run average and nine saves. Walked 39 and struck out 112 in 202 2/3 innings pitched.

2008: Was an important part of the pitching staff once again for the Golden Eagles. Led the team with 18 appearances, 12 of them starts. Also led the team in innings pitched with a career-high 81, in saves with four and in complete games with four. Walked 14 and struck out 37. Recorded a 6-5 record with a 4.44 earned run average. Had a big day against Chico State on Feb. 23. Got the final two outs to get the save in a 7-6 victory in the opening game of a doubleheader and then hurled a seven-inning complete game, allowing only one earned run, in a 5-2 win in the nightcap. Blanked Cal State San Bernardino on only three hits over seven innings of a 7-1 win for his first victory of the season on Feb. 16. Struck out a season-high eight batters in back-to-back starts and wins against Cal State Dominguez Hills on March 22 and Cal State Monterey Bay on March 29. Allowed only two earned runs and didn’t walk a batter in the win over Cal State Dominguez Hills and gave up one earned run and walked only one in the win over Cal State Monterey Bay. Pitched the final three innings to save a 3-1 win at Cal Poly Pomona on Feb. 1, got the final out of a 5-2 win over UC San Diego on March 6 and pitched a scoreless inning to wrap up a 3-2 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills on March 20.

2007: Was a major contributor out of the bullpen as a sophomore. Was second on the team in appearances with 30 and led all relievers in innings pitched with 59 1/3. Compiled a 4-3 record with a 3.49 earned run average and four saves. Allowed only one earned run over 3 1/3 innings to record a win in his first CSULA appearance against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Feb. 1. Allowed only two hits and an unearned run over four innings to pick up his first win over New Mexico Highlands on Feb. 9. Also picked up saves against San Francisco State on Feb. 24, at Chico State on March 10 and at Cal State San Bernardino on April 5. Allowed only one hit over the final 3 2/3 innings to preserve an 8-3 win at Chico State. Allowed two hits and no runs over 1 1/3 innings to help Cal State L.A. to a 4-2 win over Nebraska Omaha in the College World Series on May 30.

At Cosumnes River College: Compiled a 2-0 record with a 3.72 earned run average and three saves as a freshman in 2006. Pitched a total of 36 1/3 innings and allowed only 10 walks while striking out 30.

At West Campus High School: Competed in football, basketball and baseball in high school. Earned second-team All-League honors as a tight end in football. Earned first-team All-League honors in basketball in 2003 and 2004. Earned first-team All-League honors in baseball in 2003 and 2004 and picked up All-Sacramento City recognition in 2004. Was the team Most Valuable Player in basketball in 2004 and in baseball in 2003 and 2004.

Personal: Son of William and Carmen Mitchell. Majoring in business -- marketing management. Lists playing in the College World Series as his most exciting experience in sports.
