Biography

2009: Had another successful season for the Golden Eagles and put the finishing touches on a record-setting career. Started 12 games and had a 5-4 record with a 4.23 earned run average. Had 30 walks and 68 strikeouts in 72 1/3 innings pitched. Became the program's all-time leader in career wins with 24. Earned first-team All-West Region honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association honors. Earned second-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors. Set the new program record for wins after tossing seven outstanding innings in a 4-2 win over Cal State Stanislaus for win No. 23. Gave up just four hits and one run while walking two and striking out four. Got his 24th win after allowing just five hits and one run over 7 2/3 innings in a 3-1 victory over Cal Poly Pomona on April 23. Went a season-long 8 1/3 innings and got the win in a 6-5 victory at Chico State on March 6. Gave up only four hits and two earned runs while walking four and striking out eight. Struck out a career-high 11 in a 16-9 victory at Cal State Monterey Bay on April 3. For his career, made 51 appearances with 45 starts. Had a 24-8 record with a 3.40 earned run average. Had 102 walks and 245 strikeouts in 273 innings pitched. Was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 34th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

2008: Had another outstanding season for the Golden Eagles as a junior. Had a 9-1 record with a 2.47 earned run average for Cal State L.A. Made a team-high 13 starts and pitched a total of 80 innings. Earned first-team ABCA/Rawlings and Daktronics All-West Region honors. Also earned first-team All-CCAA honors for the first time. Tossed his lone complete game in a 6-5 win over Cal State San Bernardino on April 17. Gave up seven hits and five runs, walked four and struck out six. Allowed only six hits and one earned run over eight innings of an 8-2 win at Cal Poly Pomona on April 24. Blanked Cal Poly Pomona on two hits over six innings in his first start of the season on Feb. 1. Allowed only one hit and an unearned run in his second start against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Feb. 7 and gave up four hits and two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings and picked up a no-decision against Cal State San Bernardino on Feb. 14. Struck out a season-high eight in that game, something he did again against Sonoma State on April 4. Allowed eight hits and three runs over seven innings in that one and left leading, 9-3, but the Seawolves rallied for a 12-9 win. Allowed two earned runs or less in nine of his 13 starts.

2007: Had an outstanding sophomore season. Compiled a 9-3 record with a 3.58 earned run average. Earned second-team ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region honors and also received second-team Daktronics All-West Region recognition. Was named to the All-CCAA second team. Tossed the fourth no-hitter in Cal State L.A. history when he held San Francisco State without a hit over seven innings while walking only one and striking out eight on Feb. 24. Followed that by allowing only an infield hit over seven innings while walking four and striking out seven in a 5-0 win at Cal Poly Pomona on March 3. Followed that up by allowing only two hits and one run in five innings at Chico State. Had a dominating stretch of six starts from Feb. 24 to March 30 when he allowed only one earned run over 36 1/3 innings and won all six contests. Struck out a season-high 11 against Chico State over 6 2/3 innings and received a no-decision in a 3-2 loss at the CCAA Championship Tournament on May 10. Also started the first game for Cal State L.A. in the NCAA Division II West Regional and the College World Series. Led the Golden Eagles in innings pitched (100 2/3), strikeouts (96), games started (18), complete games (2) and shutouts (2).

2006: Made an immediate impact as a freshman by recording a 1-0 record with a 3.15 earned run average. Made eight appearances and two starts. Threw a total of 20 innings and struck out 23 while walking just four. Picked up his first career win at Cal State L.A. on April 24 when he tossed three hitless innings of relief while striking out four in an 8-2 victory over The Master’s College.

At South Gate High School: Was named the Los Angeles Central Pitcher of the Year in 2005 and the Eastern League Most Valuable Player. Was also named to the All-City team. Tossed the first no-hitter in the 16-year history of the Daily News Tournament in the championship game.

Personal: Son of Isaac and Cecilia Morales. Majoring in Kinesiology. Enjoys guitar and playing solitaire. Lists winning the championship in the Northwoods League in the summer, making it to the College World Series with Cal State L.A. in 2007 and throwing a no-hitter against San Francisco State as his most exciting experiences in sports.
