2017: Made five appearances for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Went 1-0 with a 14.54 earned run average. Pitched a total of 4 1/3 innings and had five walks and four strikeouts. Pitched a scoreless inning and struck out two and got the victory in a 4-3 win over Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 11. Pitched a season-long 1 1/3 innings and didn't give up a run in a 7-4 win at California Baptist on Feb. 4. Pitched a scoreless inning against Cal State East Bay on March 25 in his final appearance with the program. For his career, made 16 appearances with one start. Had a 1-1 record with a 7.79 earned run average. Had 17 walks and 22 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings pitched

2016: Made big improvements and was a solid member of the Cal State LA pitching staff. Made 10 appearances, including one start. Had an 0-1 record with a 6.98 earned run average. Made his first career start and allowed eight hits and four runs in 4 1/3 innings against British Columbia on Feb. 20. Had his best outing when he pitched a career-high five innings of relief and allowed only three hits and one run against UC San Diego on March 6. Also tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings against Sonoma State on April 2.

2015: Made his collegiate debut for the Golden Eagles with one scoreless inning against St. Katherine College on Feb. 14. Retired all three batters he faced with one strikeout.

2014: Did not compete for the Golden Eagles and was a red-shirt.

At Verdugo Hills High School: Was the league Most Valuable Player and earned All-City honors for a team that won two league championships. Also competed in cross country. Had a grade point average above a 3.0.

Personal: Son of Magdaleno and Laura Zavala. Majoring in fire science technology. Lists having a couple walk-off hits as his most exciting experiences in sports.
