Cal State LA Athletics

2025: Was a big part of the Golden Eagles pitching staff in his second and final year with the program.  Appeared in five games with four starts. Had an 0-1 record with a 5.71 earned run average. Had four walks and eight strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings pitched. Made his season debut and pitched one scoreless inning of relief against Regis on Feb. 22. Made his first start and gave up three hits and two runs in a win over Sonoma State on March 23. Struck out a season-high four. Pitched a career-high 6 1/3 innings against Cal State Monterey Bay on April 11. Was injured in that game, but returned to get the start and allowed three hits and one run in a win at Cal State Dominguez Hills on May 1. Team was 3-1 in his four starts. For his career, appeared in 13 games with six starts and pitched a total of 36 innings. Had a 3-1 record with a 6.00 earned run average. Had 13 walks and 22 strikeouts.

2024: Made big contributions to the Golden Eagles pitching staff in his first year with the program. Appeared in eight games with two starts. Compiled a 3-0 record with a 6.27 earned run average. Had nine walks and 14 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings. Made his Cal State LA debut and pitched two scoreless innings of relief in a win at Chaminade on Feb. 4. Got his first start and got the win with a strong five-inning performance in a win over La Sierra on Feb. 17. Allowed only four hits and two runs and struck out a season-high five. Picked up a win in his next start after allowing three earned runs over five innings in a victory at Cal State San Marcos on Feb. 23. Picked up his third win with two innings of relief in a 10-5 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on March 8.

At Allan Hancock College: Earned second-team all-conference honors and was named the team’s Pitcher of the Year. Appeared in 28 games over the 2022 and 2023 seasons and had an 8-3 record with five saves. Had a 5-1 record with three saves in 2023 with a 1.36 earned run average. Had 54 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings. Had 96 strikeouts over 77 1/3 innings in 2022 and 2023.

At Cabrillo High School: Earned first-team all-league honors and was the team’s Offensive Player of the Year. Competed in baseball and basketball.

Personal: Son of Juan and Alma Lopez. Majoring in business finance and law with an option in real estate. Enjoys basketball, working out and going out with friends. Lists his last season at Hancock and throwing so many innings with a 0 ERA, getting first-team all-league honors as a senior and winning the state MVP when he was 15 as his most exciting experiences in sports.
