Cal State LA Athletics

2024: Made contributions to the pitching staff in his one year with the program. Appeared in eight games with three starts. Compiled a 2-0 record with an 8.55 earned run average. Had 14 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched. Made his Cal State LA debut and got the win in an 11-2 victory over Chaminade on Feb. 4. Allowed only four hits and one unearned run over five innings. Walked two and struck out four. Pitched a season-high six innings and got the win in a 7-2 victory over La Sierra on Feb. 18. Gave up two hits and two runs with four walks and five strikeouts. Pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief at Cal State San Bernardino on March 15 and tossed three innings of scoreless relief against Cal Poly Pomona on April 20. Allowed three hits with one walk while striking out three.

At LA Pierce College: Earned Western State-North Conference honorable mention and was on the State Academic Team. Made 15 appearances with 10 starts on the mound in 2023. Led the team with 72 innings pitched. Was 3-6 with a 6.64 earned run average with one complete-game shutout. Also saw playing time at catcher and had 11 at bats. Made eight appearances on the mound with four starts as a freshman in 2022. Also saw time at catcher and had one home run with eight RBI and seven runs scored in 77 at bats.

At Birmingham Community Charter: Earned academic honors.

Personal: Son of Alexis Romero and Anna Valenzuela. Majoring in criminal justice. Enjoys weightlifting, listening to music and cars. Lists calling his first home run as his most exciting experience in sports.
