Biography

2019: Had a tremendous senior season with the Golden Eagles and was named the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Player of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches. Was also named the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s Male Athlete of the Year. Also earned first-team All-America and first-team All-West Region honors for a second straight year and was named the CCAA Goalkeeper of the Year. Led the NCAA for a second straight year in shutouts with 14 and was second in the nation in goals against average (0.42), fourth in save percentage (.848) and second in minutes played (2135:42). Made two memorable saves in Cal State LA’s Super Region 4 third-round match against St. Mary’s, stopping a first-half penalty shot to keep the game scoreless and then making a save on the first penalty try in a shootout win that advanced the Golden Eagles to the Super Region title game. Followed that up with two more shutouts to lead Cal State LA to the national championship match. Was named Cal State LA’s Frank J. Candida Award winner as the department’s top male athlete. For his career, recorded a program-record 28 shutouts and a program-record 0.44 goals against average. He also recorded a total of 119 saves.

2018: Had a sensational first season with the Golden Eagles. Earned first-team All-America honors from the D2 Conference Commissioner’s Association. Also earned first-team All-West Region recognition from that organization as well as third-team honors from the United Soccer Coaches. Earned second-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors. Started all 21 games for the Golden Eagles and played every minute. Led the nation with 14 shutouts, which is tied for the most in a season in program history. Had a goals-against average of 0.45, which was fourth in the nation and No. 2 all-time at Cal State LA. Save percentage of .863 was sixth in the nation. Had a season-high six saves in a 5-1 win over Humboldt State on Sept. 21, in a 0-0 tie with Cal State San Bernardino on Oct. 27 and in an NCAA Division II playoff game at Azusa Pacific on Nov. 10. Had a string of five straight shutouts from Oct. 21 – Nov. 4 that included CCAA Tournament wins over Chico State and Cal Poly Pomona. Was named to the CCAA Championships All-Tournament Team.

At Mercyhurst University: Appeared in 27 games in two seasons with the NCAA Division II program. Appeared in 11 games in 2017 and had a 5-3 record with a 1.37 goals against average and three shutouts. Made 16 starts in 2016 and had a 12-3-1 record with a goals against average of 1.17 and four shutouts. Team won Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles. 

At Tietgen Handelsgymnasium: Was team captain for Naesby BK U19 and also played for FC Fyn and Odense BK. Was a member of the Lillebaelt Academy. Was part of a 2014 state championship team.

Personal: Son of Kim and Ann-Charlott Brems. Majoring in business administration. Enjoys music, health and fitness. Lists winning the 2018 CCAA Tournament championship and earning first-team All-America honors as his most exciting experiences in sports. Notes he has two brothers, Andreas and Sebastian. His older brother Sebastian played soccer at the University of Connecticut.
