Biography

2021: Put together a tremendous season for the national champions in his final year with the Cal State LA program. Was named the national Player of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches as well as the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s Male Athlete of the Year, an award that encompasses all conference sports. Also earned first-team All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches and D2 Conference Commissioners Association for a second straight season. Was named the CCAA Defender of the Year for the second time and earned All-CCAA first-team honors for the third time. Also earned CCAA All-Tournament honors for a third time. Shared the team lead in goals with six and was tied for second in points with 12. Four of his six goals were game-winners, which led the team. Appeared in 21 games, all starts and played a total of 1,878 minutes. Had a goal in the final minute of the second overtime period in a 1-0 win at Sonoma State on Oct. 3. Scored a goal in Cal State LA’s 4-0 win over Stanislaus State on Oct. 10 and then got the game-winner in the 66th minute of a 1-0 win over Cal State San Marcos on Oct. 14. Scored goals in back-to-back wins over Chico State on Oct. 29 and Humboldt State on Oct. 31 and scored the team’s third goal in a 4-2 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in a CCAA Tournament semi-final game on Nov. 12. For his career, appeared in 85 games with 84 starts. Played a total of 7,609 minutes. Had 12 goals and five assists for 29 points.

2020: Was on the roster, but team did not compete due to COVID-19.

2019: Had another outstanding season for the Golden Eagles in his third year with the program. Earned first-team All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches and the D2 Conference Commissioners Association. Also earned first-team All-West Region honors from both organizations. Received first-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors and was named the CCAA Defender of the Year. Started all 23 games for the Golden Eagles and played a total of 2,125 minutes. Had two goals and four points. Was third on the team in minutes played. Scored the team’s second goal early in the second half of a 3-2 double overtime win over Biola on Sept. 21. Picked up the game-winning goal late in the first half of a 2-1 victory at Humboldt State on Nov. 9. 

2018: Had a sensational second season with the Golden Eagles and earned third-team All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches. Also earned second-team All-West Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches and third-team All-West Region honors from the D2 Conference Commissioners Association. Also earned first-team All-CCAA honors and was named the CCAA Tournament Defensive Most Valuable Player after helping the Golden Eagles win a second straight tournament title. Appeared in 19 games and started 18 times. Had three goals and four assists for a total of 10 points. Biggest goal of the season came when he was inserted into the lineup for the second overtime period and scored 1:40 in to give Cal State LA a 1-0 victory at Cal State San Marcos on Oct. 21. Scored what turned out to be the game-winner in a 5-1 victory over Humboldt State on Sept. 21 and notched the first goal in a 2-1 win over Chico State in a first-round NCAA playoff game on Nov. 8.

2017: Had a tremendous first season with the Golden Eagles and earned All-CCAA honorable mention and United Soccer Coaches All-West Region third-team honors. Was also named to the CCAA All-Tournament Team after helping the Golden Eagles to the tournament title. Started all 22 games for the Golden Eagles and led the team in minutes played with 2,053. Scored one goal and one assist for three points. Scored the first goal in a 2-1 win over Stanislaus State on Nov. 26. Had an assist on Damian Roszczyk’s first goal in a 4-3 win at Chico State in a first-round CCAA Tournament game.

At Nesbru VGS: Was on a team that was the Oslo Division I state champion for U19 and a finalist for the U16 Norwegian Cup National Championship.

Personal: Son of Bjarne Bjoershol and Aase Lyngstad. Majoring in Kinesiology. Enjoys staying active, working out, and having a good time going snowboarding or skiing with friends. Lists playing in the national championship finals in both Norway as a U-16 player at in college in 2019 with Cal State LA. Notes that life is good.
