Cal State LA Athletics

2021: Made meaningful contributions for the national champions in his one year on the field with the Cal State LA program. Appeared in 21 games with 20 starts. Played a total of 1,259 minutes, which was fifth among position players. Had one assist for one point. Made his Cal State LA debut and got his first start in the season opener against Simon Fraser on Sept. 5. Picked up an assist on Daniel Yu’s game-winner in the 78^th minute at Cal State San Bernardino on Oct. 17. Played a season-high 101 minutes in the national semi-final game against Nova Southeastern on Dec. 9. Earned 2021-22 California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic honors.

2020: Earned 2020-21 CCAA All-Academic honors in his first year with the program. Team did not compete due to COVID-19.

At Kantonsschule Rychenberg: Played soccer for FC Wil’s U-21 team in Switzerland. Was a key part of the team and played nearly every game. Earned his degree from Kantonsschule Rychenberg Winterthur.

Personal: Son of Danny and Audchara Vargas. Majoring in international business. Enjoys soccer, gym, writing and nutrition. Lists being a member of the Swiss national team and playing in games against Austria, the Czech Republic, Romania and Lithuania, being invited to trial training with the Chilean national team and winning the Swiss Cup with FC United Zurich as his most exciting experiences in sports. Notes he is the son of a Chilean and a Thai and that he grew up in Switzerland.
