Cal State LA Athletics

2021: Was a valuable contributor for the national champions in his final year at Cal State LA. Appeared in six games for the Golden Eagles and played a total of 145 minutes. Played an important 10 minutes for the Golden Eagles in the national championship game against Charleston on Dec. 11. Earned the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s Elite 13 for men’s soccer for having the highest grade point average among championship site competitors. Also earned 2021-22 CCAA All-Academic honors and 2021 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition. For his career, played in 11 games and a total of 225 minutes.

2020: Earned 2020-21 CCAA All-Academic honors and also received 2020 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition. Team did not compete due to COVID-19.

2019: Made meaningful contributions for the Golden Eagles in his first year with the program. Appeared in five games and played a total of 80 minutes. Made his Cal State LA debut and played a season-high 31 minutes in a 4-0 win over Northwest Nazarene on Sept. 5. Also played 16 minutes in a 6-0 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Oct. 9. Received 2019-20 CCAA All-Academic honors and was also part of the CCAA 2019 Fall All-Academic Team.

At Cal State Dominguez Hills: Appeared in 13 games with five starts as a freshman for the Toros in 2018.

At Peninsula High School: Had two goals and five assists as a senior and was named the Player of the Year. Also earned first-team All-Bay League and first-team All-Area honors. Earned second-team All-Bay League honors as a junior. Started every match as a sophomore and was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

Personal: Son of Ali and Ziba Esteva. Majoring in international business. Enjoys traveling, making clothes, coaching, playing futsal, working out and reading. Lists getting his first start in a collegiate match, winning the CCAA championship, winning the Super Region 4 championship and going to Pittsburgh for the Final Four and playing for the national championship as his most exciting experiences in sports. Notes that he has two siblings, Adrinne and Ailar, and that he can speak three languages. Notes he is part of the Golden International Honour Society and has made the Dean’s List a few times.
