Biography

2021: Had a remarkable season for the national champions in his final year with the Cal State LA program. Despite playing with a painful injury, made the memorable run that set up the lone goal in Cal State LA’s 1-0 win over Charleston in the national championship game on Dec. 11. Led the team in scoring for a second straight season with four goals and 11 assists for 19 points. The 11 assists are tied for No. 7 all-time for a single season. Tied a program record for assists in a game with three in a 3-2 win over Chico State on Oct. 29. Appeared in 21 games with 21 starts. Played a total of 1,022 minutes. Was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament for the second time in his career after scoring a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in the semi-finals and contributing two assists in a 3-1 win over Cal Poly Pomona in the finals. Scored the lone goal in the 67th minute of the NCAA Super Region 4 title game against Cal Poly Pomona. Earned third-team All-America honors for a second straight season from the D2 Conference Commissioners Association. Earned first-team All-West Region honors from the D2 CCA and United Soccer Coaches. Earned first-team All-CCAA honors for a second time. Earned 2021 CCAA Fall Honor Roll recognition. For his career, appeared in 82 games with 66 starts. Played a total of 4,393 minutes. Scored 16 goals with 34 assists for 66 points. The 34 assists are No. 3 all-time at Cal State LA and the 66 points are No. 10.

2020: Was on the roster, but team did not compete due to COVID-19.

2019: Had a sensational season for the Golden Eagles in his third year with the program. Led the team in scoring with seven goals, eight assists and 22 points. Shared the team lead in assists and was tied for second in goals. Started all 23 games and played a total of 1,259 minutes. Earned third-team All-America honors from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association. Received first-team All-Region honors from the D2 CCA and second-team All-Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches. Earned first-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors. Had a goal and an assist in Cal State LA’s season-opening 4-0 win over Northwest Nazarene on Sept. 4. Had the game-winning goal in overtime in a 3-2 win over Biola on Sept. 21. Scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory over Chico State on Sept. 29. Had a goal and an assist in a 6-0 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Oct. 9. Scored the go-ahead goal in a 2-0 win at Cal State Monterey Bay on Oct. 25. Had assists in three consecutive NCAA playoff games – on a go-ahead goal by Daniel Simonis in a 3-0 win over Midwestern State on Nov. 23, on a goal by Carl Solli in a 1-1 tie against St. Mary’s on Dec. 5 and on a goal by Robin Lindahl in a 2-0 win over Cal State San Bernardino in the Super Region 4 championship match on Dec. 7. Had a goal or an assist in 13 of 23 games. Earned 2019-20 CCAA All-Academic honors.

2018: Had second strong season for the Golden Eagles and was fourth on the team in scoring with two goals and a team-best seven assists for 11 points. Had a goal and assist in Cal State LA’s two NCAA playoff games. Had an assist in a 2-1 win over Chico State in a first-round game on Nov. 8 and had the Golden Eagles’ lone goal at Azusa Pacific in a second-round game on Nov. 10. Also had a goal in an 8-1 win over Cal State East Bay on Oct. 4. Started all 17 games he played in during the season. Earned a 2018-19 CCAA All-Academic Award.

2017: Had an outstanding first season at Cal State LA and was third on the team in scoring. Recorded three goals and a team-high eight assists for a total of 14 points. Had a tremendous post-season and was the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the CCAA Tournament following a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona in the championship game on Nov. 5. Was second in the CCAA in assists. Appeared in 21 games and started five times. Had an assist in his Cal State LA debut against Bethesda on Aug. 31. Scored his first goal of the season in a 1-1 tie at Cal State East Bay on Oct. 8. Added his second goal against Sonoma State on Oct. 20. Scored the game-clinching goal in the final minutes of the 2-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona in the championship game of the CCAA Tournament. Also assisted on Robin Lindahl’s first-half goal. Had four assists in Cal State LA’s first three games of the season.

At I.E.S. Diego Velazquez HS: Played for a club team, not a high school team. Was captain of the club team and a team MVP.

Personal: Son of Jorge and Mara Elizaga. Majoring in mechanical engineering. Enjoys sports, movies and hanging out with friends. Lists making it all the way to the NCAA championship match as most exciting experience in sports. Says he loves to win.
