Cal State LA Athletics

2017: Had a second outstanding season for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Led the team for a second straight year with 21 appearances. Had a 2-1 record with a 5.28 earned run average and nine saves. Had 21 walks and 37 strikeouts in 29 innings pitched. Went a season-high three innings and got the victory in a 12-7 win over Cal Poly Pomona on March 11. Pitched a scoreless inning and got the win in a 13-12 victory over Cal State San Marcos on May 4. Preserved a 3-2 win over Cal State Monterey Bay with one inning of relief in a California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament game on May 11. Had 11 scoreless outings and allowed one or no runs in 14 appearances. For his career, had a 2-4 record with a 3.92 earned run average and 16 saves. Pitched a total of 62 innings with 35 walks and 66 strikeouts.

2016: Had a sensational season for the Golden Eagles in his first year with the program. Made a team-high 21 appearances, 20 of them in relief. Had an 0-3 record with a 2.73 earned run average. Had all seven of the team’s saves and earned All-CCAA honorable mention. Picked up CCAA Pitcher of the Week honors on May 3 after recording three saves in a four-game sweep over Cal State Dominguez Hills. Allowed only one hit and one walk over 3 1/3 innings and struck out seven. Completed a combined shutout with Daniel Diaz by retiring all three batters he faced, two by strikeout on April 28. Pitched a scoreless inning and struck out all three batters he faced in a 5-3 win on April 29. Got the final four outs of a 9-7 win on April 30. Went five innings and allowed seven hits and two runs against Chico State in his only start of the season on March 20. Went a season-high six innings of relief against Sonoma State and struck out a season-high seven on April 2. Did not allow a run over his final nine relief appearances, giving up only four hits in 9 1/3 innings. Had two walks and 11 strikeouts during that stretch.

At UC Riverside: Had a 3-0 record with a 4.45 earned run average in 2015. Had 21 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings pitched. Made his debut in 2014 and retired the only two batters he faced in a win over Cal State Bakersfield.

At Eleanor Roosevelt High School: Earned first-team and second-team All-League honors. Competed in baseball and soccer.

Personal: Son of Chris and Cecilia Gentner. Majoring in sociology. Enjoys fishing and golfing. Lists getting his first collegiate win as his most exciting experience in sports.
