Biography

2015: Had another strong season for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Appeared in nine games and pitched a total of 5 2/3 innings. Had a 0-0 record and a 6.35 earned run average. Issued four walks and had three strikeouts. Allowed only one hit and no runs over his first seven appearances. Gave up all four runs in one outing, but bounced back and retired the only batter he faced at UC San Diego in a 3-2 win on May 2 in his final appearance with the program. Went a season-high 1 1/3 scoreless innings in a 6-5 win over Sonoma State on Feb. 21. For his career, appeared in 35 games with one start. Had a 1-1 record with a 6.87 earned run average and one save. Had 27 walks and 34 strikeouts in 36 2/3 innings pitched. 

2014: Was a key part of the Golden Eagle bullpen once again and made a career-high 11 appearances. Didn’t allow an earned run in six outings. Picked up his first career win after going 2 2/3 innings and allowing only two hits and one run in a 6-3 victory over Cal State San Bernardino on March 29. Struck out the only batter he faced to help preserve a 7-4 win over Cal State Stanislaus on March 3. Struck out the side in a relief appearance at Cal State East Bay on April 26. Made his first career start at Cal State East Bay on April 27 and allowed five hits and three runs over three innings of a 4-2 loss. Finished the season with a 1-1 record and a 5.87 earned run average. Pitched a total of 15 1/3 innings with eight walks and 15 strikeouts.  
 
2013: Was an important part of the Golden Eagle bullpen and made seven appearances. Recorded the first save of his career by retiring Cal State East Bay without a run in the final inning of an 11-9 victory on April 13. Blanked Cal State San Bernardino over three innings of a 14-2 victory in San Bernardino on March 30. Tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts in a 9-0 win over Chico State in the CCAA Championship Tournament on May 9. Didn’t allow an earned run in five of his seven appearances. Finished the season with a 0-0 record and a 7.88 earned run average. Struck out seven in eight innings on the season.
 
2012: Did not compete for the Golden Eagles and was a red-shirt.
 
2011: Made meaningful contributions as a freshman for the Golden Eagles. Made eight relief appearances and had a 0-0 record with an 8.22 earned run average. Did not allow a run in his final three appearances of the season. Pitched two scoreless innings while allowing only one hit and striking out a season-high three at Cal Poly Pomona on May 6.
 
At Warren High School: Was the San Gabriel Valley League’s Pitcher of the Year and earned first-team All-League honors in 2010. Also earned first-team All-League honors in 2009. Was a CSF Seal-Bearer in 2010.
 
Personal: Son of Adolfo and Maria Cabrales. Majoring in computer science. Enjoys working with cars, listening to music and watching movies. Lists winning the CCAA Championship Tournament in 2013 as his most exciting experience in sports. Is a Cal State L.A. President’s Scholar.
