Cal State LA Athletics

2016: Was a key part of the Golden Eagles' starting rotation in his second and final year with the program. Appeared in 11 games with 10 starts. Was 2-5 with a 2.98 earned run average. Pitched a total of 57 1/3 innings with 16 walks and 27 strikeouts. Was second on the team in innings pitched. Allowed only five hits and one run over seven innings to pick up the win in an 8-2 victory at California Baptist on Feb. 4. Gave up six hits and two runs over six innings in a 9-7 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills on April 30.  Allowed only seven hits and one run over a season-high eight innings in a 3-2 win over UC San Diego on March 3. Also allowed only one run on four hits over seven innings and got a no-decision against Cal State San Marcos on Feb. 26. Allowed two or fewer earned runs in nine of his 11 appearances. Also went 1-for-1 at the plate. For his career, appeared in 23 games with 21 starts. Had a 9-9 record with a 3.63 earned run average. Pitched a total of 126 1/3 innings. Had 42 walks and 74 strikeouts. 

2015: Was one of the Golden Eagles’ top pitchers in his first year with the program. Had a record of 7-4 with a 4.17 earned run average. Had a complete-game, two-hit shutout in a 2-0 win at Cal State East Bay on March 28 in the second game of a doubleheader. Also allowed just four hits and one run in a 4-1 win over Sonoma State on Feb. 21. Also tossed seven-inning complete-games in wins over Cal State Monterey Bay on March 22 and Chico State on April 3. Allowed nine hits and three runs in an 8-3 win over the Otters and limited the Wildcats to four hits and three runs while striking out a season-high seven in an 8-3 victory. Allowed only six hits and two runs over five innings in a 3-2 win at UC San Diego in his final start of the season on May 2.

At El Camino College: Won 17 games over his two-year career and earned the program’s “Cy Young Award.” Went 8-3 as a sophomore with a 3.52 earned run average. Made 13 starts and threw a total of 87 innings. Had a 9-2 record as a freshman with a 1.85 earned run average. Threw a total of 97 1/3 innings.

At Torrance High School: Earned the team’s Blanket Award and was a team Most Valuable Player. Competed in football and baseball.

Personal: Son of Ralph and Michelle Ramirez. Majoring in communications. Enjoys working out. Lists running in from the Angels’ bullpen and pitching at Angel Stadium and winning a huge game against Bishop Amat as his most exciting experiences in sports.
