Cal State LA Athletics

2023: Competed for Cal State LA’s track and team in her one year with the program. Had best marks of 5:36.11 in the 1,500 meters and 21:41.73 in the 5,000 in outdoor track. Had a best time of 5:57.58 in the mile in indoor track.

2022: Competed in four meets for Cal State LA’s cross country program in the fall. Was the team’s top finisher at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships. Had a best 5,000-meter time of 20:29.2 at Cal State Fullerton’s John Elder Invitational on Oct. 21. Had a best 6,000-meter time of 25:27.8 at UC Riverside’s Highlander Invitational on Oct. 15. Finished 79^th at the CCAA Championships with a 6,000-meter time of 26:38.2. Was not on the track and field roster in 2022.

2021: Earned 2020-21 California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic honors in her first year with the Golden Eagles.

At Alhambra High School: Competed in cross country, track and field and soccer. As a senior, received a senior award from the coaches, a CIF Prelims certificate and an Academic Club cord for being a general member of the PODER Club. As a junior, received a CIF Prelims certificate in cross country and finished second in the 800 meters and second in the 4x400 in track. Received a CIF Prelims certificate in cross country as a sophomore and earned a medal for finishing third in the league finals. Earned a MVP medal for the team in track. As a freshman, received a CIF Prelims certificate in cross country.

Personal: Daughter of Jose and Elvia Sanchez. Majoring in psychology. Enjoys thrifting, listening to music, family time, fashion and making videos (edits). Lists taking first place in all her events during league finals in track and field as a sophomore as her most exciting experience in sports. Says she was told she was not good enough to race in one of the events, but not only did she win the event, she says she proved that no matter who doubts her, she will always keep going and use the negative comments as motivation.
