Biography
2026: Returned from injury and ran well in her final year with the track and field program. Had best marks of 5:06.32 in the 1,500, 11:56.00 in the 3,000 and 19:57.90 in the 5,000. Finished 27th in the 1,500 at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships. Had the team’s fastest time in the 1,500 and the No. 2 mark in the 3,000 and 5,000. Also competed in indoor track and field and had a best mark of 11:27.79 in the 3,000. Earned 2025-26 CCAA All-Academic honors, 2025 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition and 2026 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition. For her career, had best marks of 2:39.41 in the 800, 5:06.43 in the 1,500, 11:14.25 in the 3,000, and 19:57.90 in the 1,500 in outdoor track and 2:36.08 in the 800 in indoor track.
2025: Had another strong season for Cal State LA’s track and field team in the spring. Had best times of 5:12.22 in the 1,500, 11:14.25 in the 3,000 and 20:04.79 in the 5,000 in outdoor track and 2:36.08 in the 800 in indoor track. Had another outstanding season for Cal State LA’s cross country team in the fall and was one of the team’s top runners once again. Ran in all six races for the Golden Eagles. Had a best 5,000-meter time of 22:53.8 at the Biola Invitational. Had a best 6,000-meter time of 24:14.9 and was the team’s No. 1 runner while finishing 170th at the NCAA West Regional. Finished 90th at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships and was the team’s No. 1 runner with a time of 25:38.0 over 6,000 meters.
2024: Competed for Cal State LA’s track and field team in the spring. Had best times of 2:39.41 in the 800, 5:27.25 in the 1,500, 11:34.95 in the 3,000 and 20:08.02 in the 5,000. Finished 15th in the 800 at the CCAA Championships. Also competed for Cal State LA’s indoor track and field team. Had a best time of 2:43.09 in the 800. Earned 2024 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition. Was the cross country team’s No. 1 runner in the fall in all six of the team’s competitions. Had a best 5,000-meter time of 19:43.5 at the Biola Invitational and a best 6,000-meter time of 23:24.0 at the Highlander Invitational at UC Riverside. Finished 67th at the CCAA Championships with a 6,000-meter time of 24:36.0 and 146th at the NCAA West Regional with a 6,000-meter time of 24:18.54.
2023: Was one of the cross country team’s most consistent runners in her first year with the program. Competed in all six of the team’s meets. Had a best 5,000-meter time of 26:27.2 in the Coyote Challenge on Sept. 9 and a best 6,000-meter time of 27:11.2 at the UCR Highlander Classic on Oct. 14. Finished 87th in the CCAA Championships on Oct. 21 with a 6,000-meter time of 27:24.4.
At Oscar De La Hoya Animo Charter HS:Â Was the Galaxy League individual champion in cross country in 2018, 2019 and 2021. Was a CIF-Los Angeles individual champion in 2019 and finished second in the CIF finals in 2018 and 2021. Team finished second in CIF in 2021. Earned Honor Roll recognition from 2018-2022. Qualified for state championships three times. Competed in cross country and basketball.
Personal:Â Daughter of Hector and Rocio Garnica. Majoring in criminal justice. Enjoys hiking, sneaker collecting, shopping and reading. Lists winning the CIF cross country championship as a sophomore and team-bonding with her teammates as her most exciting experiences in sports.
