Biography

2011: Had a second sensational season for the Golden Eagles in his second and final season with the program. Started all 23 games and led the team in minutes played with 2,207. Had two goals and three assists for seven points. Earned first-team Daktronics All-America honors. Also earned first-team All-Region honors from Daktronics and second-team honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association's Defensive Player of the Year and earned first-team all-conference honors. Scored his first goal of the season in a 1-1 tie at Cal Poly Pomona on Sept. 30. Also had the team's only goal in a 1-1 tie at Cal State San Bernardino on Oct. 16. Was one of two Cal State L.A. recipients of the 2011-12 Dr. Hal Charnofsky Memorial Award from the CCAA for academic and athletic accomplishments. For his career, appeared in 40 games with 40 starts. Played a total of 3,719 minutes. Had five goals and three assists for 13 points.

2010: Was a key addition to the Golden Eagle program and was outstanding on defense. One of the top newcomers in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. One of only two players to start all 17 games of the season for Cal State L.A. Played a total of 1,512 minutes. Also contributed offensively and was second on the team with three goals. Two of his three goals were game-winners. Had the lone goal in a 1-0 win over San Francisco State on Sept. 17 and had the opening score in a 4-0 win over Cal State East Bay on Oct. 8. Had the final goal in a 3-0 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 19. Helped lead a defense that recorded seven shutouts during the season.

At UC Santa Barbara: Was a redshirt in the 2009 season.

At Taft College: Was named the Central Valley Conference Most Valuable Player in 2008 and earned first-team All-Conference honors. Was a member of Taft’s 2007 California Community College Men’s Soccer state championship team. Was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year and earned first-team All-Conference honors in 2007.

At Lancaster High School: Earned first-team All-League honors as a senior and second-team honors as a junior. Was named the team’s Best Defensive Player as a junior and senior.

Personal: Son of Paul and Nancy Rivas. Majoring in criminal justice. Enjoys soccer, working out, music, video games, earning money and cracking forwards. Lists winning the California state championship with Taft College in 2007 as his most exciting experience in sports.
