Meet Quotes:
Coach Tina Fernandes:
"The Santa Ana winds were fully present during the competition. It provided an excellent opportunity for our Golden Eagles to prepare for any challenges that may arise in competition. Running, jumping, and throwing in such strong winds can be quite challenging; however, I believe we managed to adapt well. We achieved several personal records, one mark in the nation with
Nicholas Aninze 400 hurdles personal best, and quickly learned how to handle the conditions when facing the wind directly. I commend Long Beach State for their efforts in making necessary adjustments to guarantee that all student-athletes could compete under equitable conditions."
Â
Sinaiah Pointer:
"Finally accomplishing a big PR today made all the hard work count. Long Beach has always been a tough meet for me, so I'm happy that I was able to overcome that and go out with a bang!"
Â
Emmerson Wiggins:
"Today I did really well in the 200 meters with a PR of 24.58. Every day I am trusting the process at practice and trusting my coaches what they are telling me."
Â
Nicholas Aninze:
"Being part of the Long Beach opener was a great experience for me, not just as an athlete, but as a teammate. Every time I step on the track, I'm reminded that I'm not doing this alone. I'm surrounded by teammates who push me, support me, and hold me accountable every day at practice. I'm grateful for the culture our team has built. Whether it's early-morning workouts, tough sessions, or competition days, everyone shows up ready to work. That kind of environment makes it easier to stay focused and continue improving. I'm especially thankful for our coaches. Their belief in me and the guidance they give us daily helps me grow, not only as an athlete but as a person. They challenge us to stay disciplined, trust the process, and represent Cal State LA with pride. This season is just getting started, and I'm excited for what's ahead. My goal is to keep learning, keep working, and keep doing my part to contribute to the team's success."
