NEW ORLEANS -- Cal State LA's men's and women's track and field teams had four individuals receive national academic honors this week from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. 

Wallace Aflamah, Sinaiah Pointer, Dalia Romo and Summer Stevenson were named All-Academic Athletes by the USTFCCCA, the organization announced on Monday. The organization honored individual and teams for achievement academically and athletically.

For the individual awards, student-athletes needed a minimum of a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and also must have achieved a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships.

All four Golden Eagles earned this honor for the first time.

In addition, Cal State LA was honored as one of the USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Teams for having a team cumulative grade point average above a 3.0. It's the first time the women have been honored as a team since 2020.

Aflamah was the lone award winner for the men, extending the program's streak of having at least one student-athlete on the list to five years in a row. Aflamah, a junior majoring in computer information systems, had a tremendous first season with the Golden Eagles. He won the California Collegiate Athletic Association championship in the 100 meters and reached the NCAA Championships in the 100, finishing 20th in the nation. He was named the CCAA Newcomer of the Meet and also earned conference and College Sports Communicators honors.

Pointer, Romo and Stevenson became the first Cal State LA women to be honored since Ashley Maddex in 2018.

Pointer, who graduated in the spring with a degree in communication, was the CCAA champion in the shot put and also recorded a provisional qualifying mark in that event. She graduated from Cal State LA in three years.

Romo, who also graduated in the spring with a degree in Kinesiology, was another CCAA champion as she captured the conference crown in the 400 hurdles, showing tremendous improvement throughout her career with the Golden Eagles. Romo also competed for the Cal State LA cross country team.

Stevenson, a junior majoring in business administration, had a sensational year for the Golden Eagles that included a national championship in the triple jump. She also claimed a CCAA title in the event and was named the CCAA Female Track & Field Athlete of the Year as well as the NCAA West Region Field Athlete of the Year. She was also named the CCAA Newcomer of the Year.
