Men's Track & Field

Golden Eagles Open At NCAA Championships

EMPORIA, KANSAS -- Cal State LA's men's track and field team had three runners compete Thursday on the opening day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Drew Hill came excruciatingly close to reaching the eight-man finals in the 100 meters for Cal State LA's top performance of the day. Hill had qualified for the prelims with the No. 15 best mark in the country, but he had the eighth-fastest time on Thursday - but still didn't reach the finals. Hill finished fourth in the second of three heats with a time of 10.48 on a rainy day at the Francis G. Welch Stadium. The top two finishers in each heat plus the next two fastest times made the finals. The second-place finisher in the third heat had a slower time than Hill, but earned the final spot.

Hill finished just behind Amine Kasmi of Carson Newman, who was third in the heat with a time of 10.47 and was the last qualifier for the final.

Wallace Aflamah also competed in the 100, in the same heat as Hill. He finished eighth in the heat and 20th overall with a time of 10.77.

Nicholas Aninze competed in the 400 hurdles and finished fourth in his heat and 13th overall with a time of 52.45.

Cal State LA's women's track and field team will have two competitors on Friday. Summer Stevenson has the No. 2 mark heading into the triple jump final and Kailea Satterwhite is No. 12 in the discus.

Hill will compete in the 200 prelims for the men's team.
