Cal State LA Athletics

2016: Had another good season for the Golden Eagles in his second and final year with the program. Appeared in 47 games, all starts. Had 53 hits in 188 at bats with two home runs and 29 runs batted in. Led the team in RBI. Also scored 24 runs scored. Went 4-for-6 with a career-high four RBI and two runs scored against Chico State on March 20. Went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI against Cal State Monterey Bay on April 17. Had 14 multi-hit games, including eight games with three or more hits. For his career, appeared in 91 games and started all of them. Hit .278 with 98 hits in 353 at bats. Had two home runs,18 doubles, 56 RBI and 46 runs scored.

2015: Had a strong first season with the Golden Eagles. Was second on the team in runs batted in with 27 and fifth in batting with a .273 average. Started in 44 of the Golden Eagles’ 48 games. Had 45 hits in 165 at bats. Had a season-high four hits in five at bats with two RBI at Cal State Stanislaus on April 11. Also had three hits and three RBI in back-to-back games against British Columbia on Feb. 13-14. Hit safely in 31 games and had nine multi-hit performances. Was strong defensively as well and made only one error in 320 chances.

At BYU: Appeared in a total of 35 games with 28 starts in two seasons with the program. His .298 as a sophomore with 28 hits in 94 at bats. Drove in 12 runs and scored 13. Broke his right index finger in a game against Gonzaga in the WCC tournament and still went 3-for-4.

At West Ranch High School: Earned All-League honors and All-Santa Clarita Valley honorable mention after hitting .340. Was a four-year starter in high school at West Ranch and Saugus high schools.

Personal: Son of Dan and Melissa Hernandez. Majoring in Kinesiology. Enjoys disc golf. Lists throwing out a runner with a broken finger and winning the duel against Utah at BYU as his most exciting experiences in sports.
