Cal State LA Athletics

2010: Had a strong season with the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Appeared in 13 games and started 11 times. Played a total of 869 minutes. Had one assist and one point. Made his first career start and played 75 minutes in a 1-0 win over Biola on Sept. 2. Had an assist on a game-winning goal by Joe Davis in a 2-0 win at Cal State East Bay on Sept. 12. For his career, appeared in 32 games and started 11 times. Played a total of 1,404 minutes. Had three assists for three points.

2009: Had a successful season with the Golden Eagles. Appeared in 17 of the team’s 23 games and played a total of 490 minutes. .Picked up a pair of assists during the season. Had the assist on a goal by Spencer Tripp against Cal State Stanislaus on Sept. 27. Added an assist in the Golden Eagles’ next game on a goal by Tripp at Cal State San Bernardino on Oct. 9.

2008: Was hampered by injuries and appeared in only two games for the Golden Eagles. Made his Cal State L.A. debut at Humboldt State on Sept. 26 and played again against Cal State Stanislaus on Oct. 5 before missing the remainder of the season. Received a medical redshirt.

At Cal State Bakersfield: Played for two seasons with the Roadrunners. Appeared in nine games and made five starts in 2007. Played in 13 matches in 2006. Made his first career appearance for Cal State Bakersfield in a 4-1 win over Fresno Pacific (8-28-06). Scored his first career goal in a 3-1 win over Cal Poly Pomona (10-22-06).

At Grossmont High School: Earned All-League honors on varsity as a senior. Was the team Most Valuable Player as a freshman. Also competed in track and field.

Personal: Son of Nicolas and Maria Rangel. Majoring in nutrition. Enjoys snorkeling, puppetry and miming. Lists hitting a 75-foot shot to win a game in an eighth-grade basketball game as his most exciting experience in sports. Says he loves his mom.
