2010: Had another strong season for the Golden Eagles and completed an outstanding four-year career with the program. Started all 17 games for the Golden Eagles and played a total of 1,164 minutes. Had one assist and one point. Earned All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honorable mention. Had an assist on a goal by Gonzalo Pulgar in a 2-0 win at Cal State East Bay on Sept. 12. For his career, appeared in 70 games with 57 starts. Played a total of 5,431 minutes. Had two assists for two points.
2009: Battled through injuries much of the season, but had a successful junior year for the Golden Eagles. Appeared in 13 matches and started three times for Cal State L.A. Picked up the first assist of his Cal State L.A. career on a goal by Derek Horn against Western Washington on Oct. 23. Was a big part of the Golden Eagle defense once again. Team allowed one or fewer goals in 11 of the 13 matches he played, including two shutouts.
2008: Had an outstanding second season for the Golden Eagles and received CCAA honors for a second year in a row, earning a spot on the second team. Appeared in 19 games and started 17 times, including the last 15 of the season. Overcame early-season injury to once again perform as one of the top defenders in the conference. Team allowed one or fewer goals in 15 of the 19 matches he played in last season and recorded seven shutouts. Earned CCAA All-Academic honors.
2007: Had a tremendous first season for the Golden Eagles and was named the CCAA Freshman of the Year. Also earned All-CCAA honorable mention. Appeared and started in 20 of Cal State L.A.’s 21 games. Was named the team’s Newcomer of the Year. Helped a defense that allowed only 22 goals all season and recorded seven shutouts. Team allowed one or fewer goals in 15 of the 20 matches he played in.
At Soderslattsgymnasiet, Sweden: Competed in soccer. Club team was second best in the nation in 2006. Winner of the Oresunds Business Game. Member of the Lekfull UF whose members were named the best young entrepreneurs in Trelleborg. The company also competed for the “Best Logotype” award together with five other companies from all over Sweden in the business competition for young entrepreneurs.
Personal: Son of Hakan and Karin Gunnarsson. Majoring in civil engineering. Enjoys snowboarding, traveling, golf and music. Lists finishing second in the nation in the U-16 Swedish Championship as his most exciting experience in sports.
