Summary

Biography

2024: Had another outstanding season in his final year with the program. Won the California Collegiate Athletic Association championship in the high jump for a second straight season. Also earned All-West Region honors for a fourth time in the high jump. Had a best mark of 6-9. For his career, had best marks of 7-2.50 in the high jump and 24-1.75 in the long jump. Ended his career at No. 3 on Cal State LA’s all-time list in the high jump. Earned three All-America awards in the high jump and five All-West Region awards (four in the high jump and one in the long jump). Won a pair of CCAA championships and a total of three All-Conference awards.

2023: Had another sensational season for the Golden Eagles and earned his third All-America award in the high jump. Finished eighth in the nation for a second straight year. Captured his first California Collegiate Athletic Association in the high jump. Had best marks of 7-00.25 in the high jump and 22-9.25 in the long jump. Earned All-West Region honors in the high jump for a second straight season. Picked up CCAA Field Athlete of the Week honors for the week of March 20-26.

2022: Returned to Cal State LA and earned his second All-America award in the high jump. Qualified for the national championships in his first meet of the season, clearing 7-2.50 at Azusa Pacific’s Last Chance Meet on May 14 and moving up to No. 3 on Cal State LA’s all-time list. Finished eighth in the nation in the high jump. Earned All-West Region honors in the high jump and long jump. Had a best mark of 24-1.75 in the long jump, which met the NCAA Provisional Qualifying standard. Competed during the summer at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships in the high jump.

At Long Beach State: Competed for the Division I program in 2021. Finished second in the Big West Conference in the high jump with a mark of 7-1.50 and 10th in the conference in the long jump with a mark of 22-5.75. His best mark in the high jump is No. 6 all-time at Long Beach State.

2020: Was off to a sensational start in his second year with the Golden Eagles before the season was halted. Earned CCAA “All-Star” recognition. Won the high jump at all three meets he competed in during the season. Had a best mark of 6-11 in the high jump that was a provisional qualifying mark and No. 1 in the nation when the season ended.

2019: Had a tremendous first season with the Golden Eagles as a freshman. Earned All-America honors after finishing fourth in the country in the high jump. Recorded a season’s-best jump of 7-1.50, which is No. 4 on Cal State LA’s all-time leaderboard. Became Cal State LA’s first All-American in the high jump since 2008. Was second in the high jump at the CCAA Championships to earn All-CCAA honors. Was also fifth in the long jump. Earned All-West Region honors in the high jump. Received CCAA Field Athlete of the Week honors for the week of April 15-21. Had the team’s best mark in the long jump at 23-5.50.

At Dorsey High School: Finished third in the state in the high jump and won city championships in the long jump and high jump. Competed in basketball and track and field.

Personal: Son of Joseph and Fideline Tshiaba. Majoring in Pan African Studies. Enjoys traveling, eating, and hanging out with friends. Lists placing at nationals as his most exciting experiences in sports. Notes he can speak in four languages
