Summary

Biography

2023-24: Competed for Cal State LA’s men’s basketball team for the first time in the winter and was a two-sport athlete. Appeared in six games for the Golden Eagles and played a total of seven minutes. Made his Cal State LA debut and played one minute in an 88-65 win over Concordia (11-11-23). Made 1-of-2 free throws in an 84-62 California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament win over San Francisco State (3-7-24). Ran for Cal State LA’s track and field team after the basketball season ended in the spring. Had best times of 11.19 in the 100 and 23.44 in the 200. Competed in the 100 at the CCAA Championships and was 23rd with a time of 11.49. Earned a D2 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award. Also earned CCAA 2023-24 All-Academic honors and also received CCAA Winter Academic Honor Roll recognition for basketball and CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition for track and field.

2022-23: Had a strong freshman season for the Golden Eagles’ track and field team. Reached the CCAA finals in the 100 meters and placed eighth with a season’s best time of 10.97. Also had a best time of 22.27 in the 200. Was a finalist for Cal State LA Freshman of the Year.

At Maranatha High School: Competed in track and field and basketball. Was a Tarkanian Classic All-Star and Most Valuable Player of multiple tournaments at AAU and high school. Team won international championships (Malaysia, Philippines). Earned the Olympic League silver medal in the 100 and the Olympic League bronze medal in the 200. Was on the school’s Honor Roll each year and received High Honors.

Personal: Son of Emmanuel and Christine Zarzuela. Majoring in Kinesiology. Enjoys cooking, videography, photography and traveling. Lists running against Olympians in the Mt. SAC Relays, his first game dunk and game winner, competing in the CCAA Track and Field championships, winning multiple championships (most recently the CCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament), going to the NCAA Basketball Tournament and making it in the newspaper back home in Toronto as his most exciting experiences in sports. Notes he moved to California in 2021.
