Biography

2023: Had another strong season for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Had best marks of 21.95 in the 200 meters and 51.42 in the 400. Earned first-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors after being part of a conference champion 4x100 relay team. Finished 12th in the conference in the 200. Earned All-West Region honors as part of the relay team. Earned 2023 USTFCCA All-Academic Team honors. For his career, had best marks of 21.95 in the 200 and 49.96 in the 400.

2022: Had a strong season for the Golden Eagles in his first year with the program. Had the team’s third-fastest time in the 200 meters with a mark of 22.21. Had the team’s fourth-best mark in the 400 with a time of 49.96. Earned CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition.

At Cuyamaca College: Posted the No. 4 fastest time in school history in the 200 meters with a time of 21.49. Ranked sixth in the Southern California Region in the 200 before season was cut short due to COVID-19.

At Morse High School: Earned first-team All-CIF in track and field and was a CIF San Diego Section champion in the 4x100 relay. Placed third in the CIF San Diego Section 100 finals. Competed in the state meet in both the 100 and 4x100 relay. Ranked in the Top-25 in the state in the 100. Was named to the San Diego Union-Tribune All-Academic Team. Competed in football, baseball and track and field.

Personal: Son of Phillip McElroy and Shani Freeman. Majoring in business management. Enjoys working out, photography, hiking and trying new restaurants. Lists competing in the California State Meet as his most exciting experience in sports. Says it was one of the best atmospheres he’s ever been in. Notes he attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA and played football for the No. 3 NAIA team in the nation. In his lone season there, the team went undefeated and won a GPAC Championship. Says his love for sports and mentoring others has inspired him to want to pursue coaching once his athletic career is over.
