Biography

2023: Was on Cal State LA’s track and field roster, but did not compete in any meets in his final year with the program. For his career, had best marks of 14.79 in the 110 hurdles and 54.86 in the 400 hurdles.

2022: Had a promising debut for the Golden Eagles in his first year of competition with the program. Had the team’s best time in the 400 hurdles with a mark of 54.86. Also had a best time of 14.79 in the 110 hurdles.

2021: Was on the roster, but team did not compete due to COVID-19.

2020: Was on the roster, but did not compete in any meets for the Golden Eagles before the season was halted.

At El Camino College: Was third in the state as part of a 4x400 relay team. Also qualified for the state championships in the 110 and 400 hurdles. Recorded best marks of 14.88 in the 110 hurdles and 54.10 in the 40 hurdles.

At Torrance High School: Earned the team’s Most Inspirational and Most Improved athlete awards.

Personal: Son of Alex Mates. Majoring in computer information systems. Enjoys video games, and pc building. Lists his second year of track at El Camino College as his most exciting experience in sports.
