Cal State LA Athletics

2020: Made contributions for the Golden Eagles in his one year with the program. Appeared in four games before the season was halted. Had a 0-0 record with an 11.25 earned run average. Had nine walks and 11 strikeouts in eight innings. Was tied for fifth on the team in strikeouts. Made his Cal State LA debut and pitched 1 1/3 innings against Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 8. Recorded a season-high four strikeouts in two innings of a 14-5 win at Stanislaus State on March 7.

At Georgetown College: Was on the program’s 2018 roster.

At Mt. San Antonio College: Earned second-team All-South Coast Conference honors as a freshman after compiling a 1.71 earned run average and recording a team-high six saves.

At Don Lugo High School: Was the Most Valuable Player in the Sierra League as a senior and earned first-team All-CIF and All-League honors. Also earned first-team All-League honors as a junior.

Personal: Son of Charley and Maggie Matus. Majoring in sociology. Enjoys fishing, detailing cars and swimming. Lists receiving MVP honors in his senior year of high school as his most exciting experience in sports. Notes he does not have a favorite baseball team.
